1682-1725 Peter The Great Silver Wire Money Of Medieval Russia

Diameter: approximately 10.5 mm x 6.5 mm

Weight: .2 g

The last silver wire money which had been used for centuries in Russia, was minted under Peter the Great. Flat, fish-scale-like coins were created by rolling silver into a wire and sliced into pieces that were hammered flat. The flattened pieces were struck between two round dies, producing an oval shaped coin. All hand struck, no two were ever alike
