After seeing a holy vision at the Milvian bridge, Constantine made Christianity the official state religion and eventually converted to it himself. He rebuilt Byzantium and renamed it Constantinople, making it the capital of the empire. Constantine was one of the few Roman emperors to actually die of natural causes.
